the caregiving staff at The Haven in
the Village at Carolina Place, Marcus
is well-known for her dedication to the
community’s residents, all of whom
have Alzheimer’s or some other form of
dementia. For example, she plays a lead
role in weekly themed lunches for residents. Each Friday, this special event for
residents involves menu coordination
(carefully planned for modified diets),
decorating the community room where
the lunch takes place, selecting music
to reflect that week’s theme, escorting
residents to the event, and serving and
assisting during
the meal. In another example,
Marcus became a
resident’s much-needed helper
when a valued
blazer went missing. Knowing how
important the
blazer was to the
resident, Marcus
went above and
beyond to finally
locate it. The resident cannot speak; he
suffered a head injury that led to his
move to the memory care community.
However, it was abundantly clear how
much finding this personal item meant
to him and his family members.
is also known for volunteering at community events, dancing with resident
and encouraging even shy residents to
join the festivities. “After the fun, she
takes on the majority of clean-up, leaving our community ready to well all
the next day. Debbie is always willing
to help others with anything needed to
make their days better,” said a colleague.
“The dedication and passion of our
people definitely help make senior
living the fastest-growing long-term
care option in the United States,” says
Grimes. “The high-quality, resident-fo-
cused care provided by these outstand-
ing individuals and their communities
is what our nation’s seniors need and
deserve.”

Kinsey’s everyday performance is
the epitome of above-and-beyond ser-
vice and dedication to residents. Her
colleagues marvel
at her ability to al-
ways get her daily
work done and
make time to as-
sist residents with
special tasks, such
as rearranging
clothes closets at
the start of a new
season. Kinsey lis-
tens carefully to
residents during
these activities,
helping them feel a sense of accom-
plishment for tasks they would be un-
able to complete by themselves. Kinsey
