One of ALFA’s roles is to ensure
federal lawmakers understand the issues facing the senior living business
and the residents ALFA members
serve. Throughout the year, ALFA
staff, members, and advocates meet
with elected officials, many of whom
are also invited into communities to
meet with residents and hear firsthand about the issues that concern
them. Likewise, ALFA provides its
members the opportunity to hear directly from key officials about their
thoughts on senior living.

advocates for senior living. Please note

As the top Republican on the
House Budget Committee and a se-
nior member of the House Ways and
Means Committee, Rep. Ryan, 40, is
well positioned to influence his party’s
thinking on economic and fiscal policy.
Earlier this year, he issued a detailed
economic plan called “A Roadmap
for America’s Future.” This proposal
would keep Social Security and Medi-
care intact for those over 55 but make
sweeping changes for those 54 and
under. Younger Americans would see
their Social Security money go into in-
dividual investment accounts managed
and guaranteed by the federal govern-
ment; tax credits would be used to en-
courage voters to purchase their own
health insurance; and vouchers would
replace the current Medicare system.
