leads and ultimately new residents for
senior living communities is through
superpages.com, the leading online directory service with millions of business
and residential listings nationwide.
here is the data resulting from a
30-day evaluation of superpages’ traffic
generation and conversion rates in 18
senior living communities across the
united states:
YOgA MAY iMprOve seniOrs’ sleep
Adding yoga classes to a community’s activities schedule may result in better
sleep among residents. In a study conducted
by Taiwanese researchers, assisted living
residents’ overall sleep quality improved significantly after six months of yoga exercises.
Depression, sleep disturbances, and daytime
dysfunction became less prevalent as well,
according to the study published in the
Journal of Nursing Research.
Researchers split a sample of 69 seniors
residing in assisted living communities into
yoga and control groups. The yoga group
met with two certified yoga instructors three
times per week for 70-minute exercise sessions for 24 weeks. Researchers measured sleep quality and depression states at the start of the study and then again
at the 12- and 24-week marks.

While these figures can’t compete
with the number of leads and efficient
cost-per-lead generated by google paid
advertising, superpages can provide benefits, including increased online brand
awareness and additional seO exposure
which results in higher listings in the
“natural” or organic searches on google,
Yahoo, or bing.
the best return on online investment,
however, is to have a well-optimized
Web site, a verified and complete maps
listing, and a targeted pay-per-click (ppc)
spend. After those items are complete,
industry-specific directories and internet
Yellow pages (i Yps) such as superpages can play a key role in a company’s
online media mix, but should be tracked
and measured to maximize allocation of
spend.
MArtiAl Arts trAining MAY reduce FAll risKs
Seniors with osteoporosis may not be first in line for a karate class, but safe
martial arts training could help them avoid
falls and injury, according to a study from
Sint Maartenskliniek, a Dutch hospital that
specializes in the treatment of posture and
movement disorders.
Researchers first measured the force of
impact from various martial arts exercises
and then compared their findings to data on
the amount of force an osteoporosis sufferer
can safely withstand. Then they adapted these
moves to exercises suitable for seniors with
osteoporosis, such as incorporating protective
hip padding and thick mattresses, and avoiding falling forward from a standing
position. Study results appear in an online journal called BMC Research.

MinOrities At higher risK OF AlzheiMer’s
African-Americans are twice as likely and Hispanics are 1. 5 times as likely as whites to develop Alzheimer’s disease, says the recently released 2010
Alzheimer’s Disease Facts & Figures report.
The higher risk among minorities does not appear to be genetic. However,
other conditions—such as high-blood pressure and diabetes, which have been
linked to increased risks of developing dementia—are more prevalent among
minorities. Additionally, socioeconomic disparities and cultural differences may
thwart effective care strategies for minority seniors. Download the report at
